Meme Editor Guide

The Editor step is where the source media becomes a finished meme. The photo or GIF, caption text, and privacy blur masks behave like selectable objects on a canvas. Click or tap the object you want to edit, then drag, resize, rotate, or use the matching toolbar controls.

Resizable objects keep a small minimum size so a photo, caption, or privacy mask cannot accidentally be shrunk into something too tiny to select again. This keeps touch editing usable on phones and helps prevent lost objects on desktop.

The right sidebar is divided into compact sections that load open by default: Caption Setup and Caption Editing. Animation appears in the same sidebar pattern when the source is an animated GIF. Frequent section actions live in the sidebar title rows where possible, while the section body holds the larger controls and selected content. Click the full section title or the caret button to collapse or reopen a section. The question icon beside each section opens the matching help article or anchor without changing the meme you are editing.

Caption Setup

Caption Setup controls the words shown on the meme. Users can pick an approved caption, randomize the selected caption, add custom placeholder caption lines, remove lines, and clear all captions.

Caption Editing

Each caption line has its own compact toolbar. The controls apply to that line without moving the caption on the canvas. Users can also double-click a caption on desktop, or double-tap it on a touch screen, to edit the text directly on the preview canvas.

Meme Preview

The Meme Preview section shows the editable canvas and the grouped image toolbar. This is the main work area: click the photo, caption text, speech bubbles, or a privacy blur mask directly on the canvas, then drag, resize, rotate, or use the toolbar buttons. Double-click or double-tap caption text to edit it in place, or double-click a speech bubble to jump to its text field.

The toolbar keeps frequent actions close to the canvas: resize and crop, zoom, flip, animation direction for GIF sources, privacy blur masks, and reset/background controls are grouped separately so they stay compact without mixing unrelated actions.

Everything inside the saved image boundary becomes one generated meme image. That includes the photo or GIF frame, caption text, speech bubbles, privacy blur masks, and the editable background color behind the media. The checker-style preview surface exists to make the saved frame feel like an editable image area instead of ordinary page chrome.

Speech Bubbles

Speech Bubbles add small cartoon callouts for short side comments, reactions, or dialogue that should look like it comes from a specific person or area in the image. Use Add Speech Bubble, type the short message, and choose the tail direction that points toward the speaker or object.

Each bubble is a selectable canvas object. Drag it into place, resize it from the handles, rotate it when needed, or remove only the selected bubble. Tail direction choices cover top left, top center, top right, right, bottom right, bottom center, bottom left, and left, so the bubble can point from any side of the callout.

Speech bubbles render in the browser as part of the same final canvas as captions and privacy blur. They do not create extra upload steps or separate attachments, which keeps Save Media fast even when the source is an animated GIF.

Animation Settings

Animation controls appear only when the source media is an animated GIF. Static images, static WebP files, and single-frame GIFs keep this section hidden so the editor does not show controls that cannot affect the saved result.

The editor trims the GIF timeline in seconds and uses the same selected frames, playback speed, and playback direction for the live preview and final animated meme. Trim Range and Playback Speed use matching slider cards with bubble values, while Playback Direction is a compact toggle in the Meme Preview toolbar. Privacy Blur

Privacy Blur is designed to hide parts of the image while keeping the meme readable. The add/remove blur buttons live in the Meme Preview toolbar as their own compact group, so the user can create a square or circular mask without opening another sidebar section. New masks use the editor's strong default privacy coverage.

Privacy masks live above the photo and below captions, so meme text remains visible even if a mask overlaps the same area. Click a mask directly on the canvas to move, resize, or rotate it. Use Remove Selected Blur or Remove All Blurs from the Meme Preview toolbar when a mask is no longer needed.

The Save Media button submits the canvas state and creates a completed meme image. The save action should preserve caption positions, caption sizes, image placement, rotation, and zoom exactly as the user arranged them.
