Animation Settings appear only when the source media is an animated GIF with more than one frame. Still images, static WebP files, and single-frame GIFs do not show these controls because they cannot change the saved result.

The Animation section uses the same sidebar pattern as the other editor sections. It opens when available, the full title row can collapse or reopen it, the caret shows the current state, and the question icon opens this guide.

Trim Range

The trim control is one timeline with a start handle, an end handle, and a selected middle section. Drag either handle to adjust the beginning or end of the saved GIF. Drag the selected middle section to move the whole trimmed range together without changing its length.

Trim values are shown in one bubble such as 0s - 4s and are stored in seconds, not percentages. The timeline snaps to 0.1 second steps so the selected range lines up with the GIF's timing and stays predictable while dragging or using the keyboard.

Control Label What It Does
Start
Start Handle Moves the first included GIF frame forward or backward in 0.1 second steps.
End
End Handle Moves the last included GIF frame forward or backward in 0.1 second steps.
Selected
Selected Middle Section Moves the chosen trim range together while preserving its duration.
Arrows ← →
Keyboard Arrows Move the focused handle or selected range by 0.1 seconds. Holding Shift moves by larger 0.4 second steps.

Playback Speed

Playback Speed changes the GIF frame delays after the trim range is selected. It uses the same slider-card styling as Trim Range, shows its current value in a bubble such as 1x, and supports the full range from 10x slower to 10x faster with normal speed in the center.

Speed affects both the live editor preview and the generated GIF. Slower values make every selected frame stay visible longer. Faster values shorten frame delays so the selected range plays more quickly.

Playback Direction

Playback Direction is a compact toggle in the Meme Preview toolbar. It chooses whether the selected trim range renders forward or in reverse. Direction affects the live editor preview and the generated GIF, so the saved meme matches what was previewed before Save Media.

Save Behavior

When Save Media is used, the browser renders the edited meme across the selected GIF frames, applies the chosen playback speed and direction, and sends the generated animated meme into the save step. Captions, image placement, background color, privacy masks, and animation settings are all included in that final render. The live canvas preview should match the timing and direction of the final saved GIF as closely as the browser can render it.
